How to increase life & performance of your Computer

I have heard this from many people that, there old/new laptop is very slow and crashes and heat a lot.

Here are a few pointers which I have tried personally. My dual core laptop is now 4.5 years old and still boots up within 15 seconds.

The main root cause of a good laptop becoming bad is lack of RAM and Overheating, lack of RAM affect your system depending upon what you want to do with it and it is very much in your hand issue with an easy fix. But on the other side overheating for a prolonged time can damage your processor or mother board chip which can't reverse until unless you change the part which is damaged (which will cost a lot if your laptop is not under warranty). But most new chip (means chip manufactured within last 8-10 years) comes with overheating protection which either compensate by shutting down the computer or reducing the clock speed to compensate the temperature resulting in slowing down of the computer. Here are a few pointers you can keep in mind while buying a new desktop or laptop.

Buying product:
You might have already done that, but if not please  laptop manufacturers don't build chips them self, but they do design the PC/laptop and fit the chips in it, read a review and choose a design which is not notorious for overheating, Choose laptop which do not have a heating vent at back surface. Also see the power dissipation of the processors, comparing them will give you fair idea which one is better.

Upgrading your laptop/Desktop
If you less than 2 GB ram, Please upgrade. 1 GB is just at par for modern PC and you need latest 2 GB if you want to run other applications. Upgrading Windows Vista will also have as they are much better performing OS's.

Get a SSD or at least hybrid drive:
The biggest bottleneck of the any computer (even if it is a low end atom processor or i7) is a hard drive IO operation, your conventional magnetic drive is just not the match for today's processor technology. I have a windows 8 with 4 GB ram and though it almost never reaches the full RAM charge or full processor charger, but it constantly hangs on hard drive IO operations. A SSD is almost 200 times faster than your conventional hard drive, it will remove that bottle neck and help reach your computer reach its optimal performance.

Avoid OVERHEATING Situations:
This is most important, don't use PC under closed or heated conditions like,  Placing your laptop onto a insulated fabric surface such as a comforter or blanket while the computer is running, or playing high end games under 45 degree Celsius etc.

Get it serviced :
Yes, your PC wants to get clean up like every once in a year at least, because dust particles get stuck in its vents and get bigger, then they create a insulating effect which get your computer heat up and reduce the performance or issues. Take the extended warranty plan, it will totally worth it if you get your laptop serviced 3 or 4 times.

Get Virus Protection software:
Install a good antivirus, because virus infection can lead to computer processor overload hence to over heating.

This information should be enough for extending your laptop life.

The best thing about today scenario is that with rise of ultra books and tables, software manufactures are focusing on optimizing software so it can work better on low end machines and chances are good that your 5 year old laptop has more muscles than your friend month old ultra book, so just by keeping software upgraded like windows 8 or new linux release, you can really get max your laptop.
