Sony finally fix Xperia Z and ZR battery issue

Keeping up to it promises Sony finally fix the Sony Xperia Z and ZR battery drain issue (which it introduced with Kitkat 4.4.2 release 2 months ago) with its latest Kitkat 4.4.4 update.

Officially Sony announced that software upgrade include
  • Better battery performance in some background applications
  • Email stability & performance enhanced
  • General improvements to MMS, Calendar, Wifi, Contacts & More
  • All of our latest bug fixes and enhancements.
The problems reported with Kitkat 4.4.2 were :
  • GPS was not locking position in battery saving mode. (now fix)
  • Google Play services are draining too much battery. (now fix)
  • Media server is draining too much battery. (now fix)
  • Phone always in awake mode, battery drain issue. (now fix)
  • Google now is taking too much battery (I did not test it, because of fear that it spring back the phone in battery draining mode)

Sony initially blamed Play services for the battery drain issue, but I am sure that they were just covering their asses because if it would have been just Play services all the Nexus series would have reported it, even the new series phones did not reported it.

Xperia Z/ZR were a year old devices and Sony efforts to keep them updated are appreciable, but little bit of more testing would have saved lot of time for both producers and consumers.

After bad experience with 4.4.2 upgrade I hope there are no more surprises to come from Sony for these so called legacy devices and the 4.4.4 Kitkat upgrade will prove to be stable.

Update:

It has been more than a week since I have upgraded to Kitkat 4.4.4, and every thing looks stable.
I am using the phone in full potential, even enabled Google Now, Location reporting and Location history, the battery life still very good, only when running Location in high accuracy mode, take little more battery then general, but battery saving mode, which is my permanent mode, is pretty much you need when you are not using your phone for navigation.
